Rejaev.com: We would like to ask you that from a lot of categories and topics, why have you chosen this topic? Why support for step fathers?
Surprisingly, stepfathers weren’t my initial choice. My first choice was on German beer stein collecting. I lived in Germany for five years and during that time I was an avid collector. The man upstairs (God) had everything to do with my choice. On the first day of my website building class I received a prompting to choose stepfathers as my niche and the rest as they say is history.
At the time I was a stepfather for over 16 years and encountered many of the situations, frustrations and problems I write about. Learning the divorce rate is over 60% for blended families and the negative impact on everyone involved especially the children was very disturbing to me and I wanted to do something to make a positive difference in the lives of stepfathers and their families.
Rejaev.com: There are a lot of different categories on the website supportforstepdads.com, how did you select those categories? What are the most important points of these categories?
I selected the categories based on what I feel a stepfather needs to be successful. I address the unique aspects of being a stepparent, blended family myths, poems and quotes a grateful family member can give to their stepfather, and humor. Stepfather’s are also husband’s so I provide various tips on how to be a good husband. I recently learned a number of the women partnered with stepfathers are stepparents themselves so I’ve begun including stepmom poetry and quotes. Also a lot of stepfather’s grew up without a positive father or father figure so I started writing posts on what is authentic manhood.
Rejaev.com: We like the category “Honoring Stepdad” because of its contents and validity. Which other category you think is rich in content?
I’d like to think all of the categories are rich in content, but if I have to pick one it would be Quotes & Wisdom. I’m particularly partial to this category because I take a quote from a famous person or celebrity and relate it to the step parenting or blended family experience. This really stretches me as a writer.
Rejaev.com: How do you get these contents? How can a user/visitor interact and support this website?
I get content through various stepparenting books I’ve read, other blogs, my own personal experience, requests made by website users/visitors and I also accept submittals from guest bloggers.
Users/visitors can support this website by leaving comments. If they’re already a stepfather or thinking about becoming one I’ve put together a guide How to Be a Great Stepfather – an excellent resource and it’s free. They can also join the member forum and start new or add to continuing conversations.
Rejaev.com: Do you charge for your services?
Not at this time.
We do have a store on Café Press, http://www.cafepress.com/stuffforstepdads where you can buy various products from a coffee mug, iPhone case and clothing items with your favorite stepfather or stepmother quote. The money earned will go back into the operation of the website.
Rejaev.com: What are the features you are going to add in recent future? What is your aim?
Someone will be able to order a customized poem they can present to their stepparent. I also plan on creating a book called, “Gifts for Our Stepfathers” a collection of various poems and quotes written by myself and submitted by website visitors. A free sampler of the main book is currently available on the website. I will also be upgrading the forum. Eventually I plan on conducting webinars or recorded sessions on You Tube.
My aim is for Support for Stepfathers to be a source of encouragement and support for stepfathers world-wide and to recognize them for the heroes they are.
